Sprint and Alltel receive complaints on contracts

Whenever contracts are agreed upon, and agreements signed, it is always understood that you have consented fully, consciously, and of their own free will to whatever is written on it, be it in bold letters or in fine print. Unfortunately, this has also been a source of complaints and lawsuits from clients and customers who feel that they have not been informed of certain stipulations in the contract.

One of the top cell phone network providers, Sprint Nextel Corporation is facing a lawsuit alleging that they are deceiving their wireless customers, which was put on record at the federal courts of Illinois. Sprint customers are complaining that the company extended the contracts of their wireless phone without their consent or not at least informing them of the extension made. The extension of contract was made whenever a Sprint Nextel client made a minor change to their services including the purchase of a new cell phone even if the number used is still the same or upgrading the plan of the cell phone to have more free minutes. The complainants even claim that the additional products and services were from solicitations received from Sprint and discounts given.

A spokesperson of Sprint Nextel relays that the complaint is still under the review of the top officials of Sprint Nextel and that it would be premature to comment on the claim without a thorough review of it first. They say that before they release to their clients their products and services, they first make sure that the terms and conditions stipulated in the contract are fully understood by the client. And if there are some concerns that their clients have with it, they try their best to address those concerns immediately so that they would not encounter any problem with it in the future.

Another such case of problems with contracts and conditions is with Alltel Corp. They have been charged with a lawsuit at a federal court in Arkansas which has been running for a long time.

They are charged with failure to inform their clients on the specifics on billing, service limitations, sales practices as well as the fees that apply to the service being obtained with Alltel . The complainants mention that they did not know that they were to be charged fees for certain services rendered with regards to the cell phone service they obtained. They also did not know that their service is limited only to a certain area or period of time.

Private firms on equity GS Capital Partners and TPG Capital acquired the company Alltel for almost $28 billion during the previous year. Alltel is at present in a legal fight to stop the lawsuit from going back to the state courts. They even said that they believe that this suit should be under the federal courts, based on a law made in 1993 that opposes the regulation that gives the state courts the power to regulate the prices and fees of the wireless services and limited power over the other conditions of wireless services.
