Sprint Temporarily Stops Sales of LG Rumor

If you were an owner of an LG Rumor from Sprint , you might be encountering firmware issues. Well, you are not alone. It's been known that during the phone's start up, certain sets of key presses can potentially erase the entire firmware of the cell phone. With knowledge to the fact that there are a number of mobile phone users who are complaining about this issue and that there are several LG Rumor handsets that are being returned to the stores for repair and replacement, Sprint finally halted sales of the LG Rumor until the manufacturer has found a solution to the firmware problem.

How is it possible that LG Rumor's firmware shuts down? What really happens is that when certain keys are pressed, usually when a user is eager to dial up a phone number or when a user wanted to go immediately to the main menu, this can possibly trigger the system to go to the phone's debugging menu, which is actually intended for LG engineers to work on the device during its development.
It is important to not that the issue usually happens during start up, when you open or reboot your phone. To prevent the erasure of your phone's firmware it is strongly advised that you avoid pressing any keys for at least 30 seconds after you turn your phone on. This can hopefully lessen the risk of your damaging your phone's firmware.
One thing that is truly frustrating is that LG Rumor's firmware defect cannot be repaired or restored just as easily. Worse come to worst, you need to send your phone to the manufacturer's factory for repair. What's even more frustrating is that the debugging code can even possibly eradicate part of the firmware that can prevent Sprint technicians to repair the device. When this happens, there is no other choice but to do a JTAG restore which can only be done in an LG factory.
LG is currently working on the firmware issue and is continually developing a concrete solution to the problem. The company is looking for ways to remove accessibility to the codes that can trigger the firmware defect. They are updating a better and more stable firmware that can readily be available and downloaded once completed and approved. Once available, LG Rumor users can update their firmware over the air without having to pay for anything.
On a positive note, Sprint is still hopeful that LG Rumor with its updated firmware would be made available soon. When this happens, the said mobile phone carrier is not hesitant to put LG Rumor back on their store shelves readily for sale.
